Y3/4 homepage

Welcome to Year 3 and 4.

We hope that you enjoyed the Summer break and are well rested and ready to work hard for the first term as Year Three and Year Four! We have lots of exciting things planned for this half term and we are certainly excited to see what you can do. Our main topics this term are Ancient Eygpt and The United Kingdom.

There will be a huge focus upon handwriting and presentation this term; everybody must be joining their writing and thinking about how to present work to a high standard. Everyone must also be joining their letters in the correct way. Please let us know if you would like handwriting sheets to practise at home.

Skills to keep up at home -
Now you are in KS2 we encourage you to choose and change your own reading book. We would like you to think carefully about the books you are choosing and try to read lots of different types of books, such as: non-fiction, fiction, poetry and plays. It is really important to continue to read at home regularly to improve comprehension skills and fluency. We ask that you read at least twice a week with your adults, and lots on your own! Please make sure that your Reading Record is signed so that we can see when you have been reading.

There will be a continued huge push on learning your times tables this year: at the end of Year 4 you should be able to recall up to 12 x 12. We will continue to use Times Tables Rockstars in class and at home to improve your recall.

Also, you will be able to access IXL at home again this year! IXL is helpful for reviewing Maths and English learning. Some children have Nessy accounts which are useful to improve your reading and spelling skills and will count as one of your five times reads when accessed.

Homework and spellings will be given out on Fridays and will need to be returned by the following Wednesday. Spelling test will be taken on the following Friday.

Remember to come into school in your PE kits on a Monday please! This term we will be having a gymnastics coach coming in.
